Ai Ogura Makes History In The Netherlands: Dutch GP Recap

Ai Ogura wrote History at the TT Assen in the Netherlands last weekend and this win was also his maiden victory in MotoGP. This article will tell you everything else that happened so you will be prepared for next race weekend.
Making History
Ai Ogura can write his name in Motogp history by getting his first win at the TT Assen and becoming the first Japanese rider to win a race in the Motogp since 2004. The Trackhouse Racing team couldn’t have had a better weekend with Raúl Fernández becoming second to complete the one-two finish, Jorge Martín finished off the podium in third place and moving up to the top of the championship standings.
Ai Ogura started the race from the front row, he remained in front for the first couple of laps before getting into a battle for the lead with Fernández and pole-sitter Jorge Martín. The fast-flowing circuit once again made true to its reputation as the Cathedral of Speed, producing close racing during the whole race.
Ogura Seizes His Opportunity
The race changed when championship leader Marco Bezzecchi crashed at Turn 15 while running near the front of the pack, ending his race. With Bezzecchi out of the race, the Trackhouse rider had whole control of the pace, Fernández was leading the race, while Ogura was managing his tires further back in the pack before starting the attack in the closing stages of the race.
The Japanese rider crossed the finish line +2.004 seconds ahead of Fernández making this his first win in the Motogp and the first win by a japanese rider since Makoto Tamada’s in 2004.
Trackhouse Celebrates a Dream Weekend
Trackhouse Racing had one of their best weekends in its Motogp history. After getting a one-two finish on Saturday where Fernández took the win, the American team repeated that result during the Grand Prix on Sunday where the results were switched with Fernández becoming second and Ogura taking the win. Jorge Martín finished the all-Aprilia podium after leading the first couple of laps, Fabio Di Giannantonio had a long-lap penalty and finished in fourth. Alex Márquez took fifth place after an impressive comeback race.

With the Dutch Grand Prix weekend finished, we can now focus on the German Grandprix at the Sachsenring which is taking place from the 10th of July till the 12th of July.
