It is official, McLaren are your 2025 Formula One Constructors Champions, and this time it has not come to the last race of the season. Whether we knew it would happen or not, McLaren's season has been nothing short of spectacular. With wins taken by a landslide, to very tight battles, this article will run through how McLaren found glory once again with the Constructors' title.
McLaren’s Building Blocks
Their rise started back in 2023, after a severely disappointing start to the season, they managed to have a phenomenal comeback with podium finishes like Norris’ P2 and Piastri’s Sprint Win in Qatar. This is what has propelled them to the front of the grid each weekend. In 2024, not only did Norris get his first career win, but McLaren got their first win since Ricciardo’s in Monza 2021. This was the tipping point of the last season. We then saw a decent but not breathtakingly close championship battle between Norris and Verstappen.

That year, they accumulated 666 points with 6 Grand Prix victories between their two drivers. With their narrow constructors battle of 14 points in 2024 against Ferrari, they prepared for another battle against the Prancing Horses. However, they are yet to put up a consistent fight as McLaren has flown away with the championship dreams from the minute they went out on track for testing. The 2025 testing proved McLaren was a strong contender for the trophy, with Norris being significantly quicker than his rivals.
Papaya Prevails

The security of topping the timing sheet in testing would solidify their confidence going to Melbourne for the opener. Norris took the chequered flag while Piastri finished P9 after aquaplaning off track. McLaren started by leading the Formula One constructors' campaign by 25 points.
As the team headed to China with a high spirit, it would be another great result for McLaren. Piastri took pole and converted it into a win with Norris coming home right behind him. After a double DSQ for their expected rival of 2025, Ferrari, it certainly took some pressure off them to perfect their weekend in Suzuka. Four-time World Champion may have bested McLaren to take home the chequered flag but that didn’t dampen their happiness with a 2-3 podium from the boys.
The back-to-back plethora of points continued into the dark deserts of Bahrain, with Piastri taking the gold trophy by nearly 16 seconds and Norris finishing just behind Russell in 3rd. Saudi Arabia was another great weekend, with another win for the Australian. Off to the USA and hitting the asphalt in Miami, the fond memories of 2024 must’ve supported McLaren with their 1-2 as Piastri got his first victory at the track Norris did the year prior.

Red Bull’s No.1 Driver worked his magic to replicate the 2024 result (P1 - Verstappen , P2 - Norris), but McLaren still got a double podium, so off to the glitz and glam of Monaco they went with a strong lead of 132 points over Mercedes. It’s everyone’s dream to win in Monaco, and it came true for Norris this year. His win and Piastri’s 3rd place extended their lead further. Now off to Spain, where they clinched another 1-2. It seemed like no one could stop them, and they were in their own league!
The Austrian Grand Prix was another triumph as they collected another 1-2 while their home race was won by the home hero - Norris. A fantastic win and even more points added to their name. The Belgium Grand Prix brought the rain (a lot of rain), which postponed the race however McLaren didn’t let the weather get the best of them, with Piastri winning and Norris in second.

Hungary was a race of controversy in 2024 and saw the introduction of “papaya rules,” but this year they weren’t present and Norris won with Piastri under a second behind in P2, adding to the winning margin, and before we knew it, they had 299 points over Ferrari with 260 points.
Struggles and Losses of McLaren

Canada is the Grand Prix that sticks out like a sore thumb when it comes to which race was a let-down for the team. With the Drivers' Championship battle brewing between their drivers, the stakes were high, and Norris made an unconventional move down the start-finish, which rewarded him with his first DNF and the team's first DNF of the season. Valuable points were lost to Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc in the event.
After the summer break, the F1 circus landed in Zandvoort for the Dutch Grand Prix. The team was on perfect form; despite a hiccup in Norris’ qualifying, they still managed to get to Q3. However, a mechanical gremlin cursed the Briton, and he had to retire his car from the race lead.

To the Temple of Speed the team went, but this Grand Prix saw the resurgence of “papaya rules”. Norris was given a slow pitstop, and Piastri was given team orders to let him through to P2. It was another race of controversy while McLaren tried to keep each side of the garage equal. Then out to Azerbaijan the championship leader, Oscar Piastri had a rare mistake and DNFed with Lando Norris finishing seventh.
The Woke based Formula One Team finally managed to clinch their deserved World Constructors Championship in Singapore with Lando Norris finishing in P3 and Oscar Piastri placing in P4. Now all our focus shifts to the driver’s world championship: which Papaya car will prevail?
