The former Haas Team Principal has finalised a deal to buy the Tech3 team in both MotoGP and Moto3. Here’s what we know of the acquisition!

Just 18 months ago, the Italian left Haas Formula One Team, now he’s closed a deal estimated to be £17.5 million. It’s reported that Apex will be funding the majority of the investment, with Herve Poncharal stating: “Steiner could come on board as an investor… or minority shareholder.” This deal is likely to reduce pressure from KTM as the team slowly recovers from financial difficulties in August last year.
Poncharal is to hand over the reins to Steiner by the 2026 season, for the former team principal to learn the ropes of being a CEO of a MotoGP team. He also believes that this deal will be “helping (the team) with sponsorship” as well.
Richard Coleman is set to be the new Team Principal as Poncharal steps back into a consultant role to nurture the young talent rising through the ranks. Coleman stated, “We’re here to compete, not just participate… We want to connect with even more fans and show off the best of MotoGP.” Coleman clearly has the ambition to take the Tech3 MotoGP Team to the front and to continue their legacy that began in 2001. Herve Poncharal also reflects this, stating, “This is the end of an era, but the beginning of an exciting one for all of us… Tech3 will be in good hands to help it grow even more in this new era of MotoGP.”

The new CEO stated, “A fantastic opportunity. Tech3 is a great team with a huge amount of potential and an impressive legacy.” He endorsed Herve on his work with the team and the foundations he has built, while also having high aspirations to “maximise the potential of the team”.
Do you think the Tech3 MotoGP Team will be the ones to watch with this ownership and leadership change for next season? Only time will tell, but for now Tech3 MotoGP Team is still fighting on the KTM, at 3rd in the constructors.
