The Edmonton Oilers’ goaltending drama is … over? After goaltending contributed to Edmonton’s slow start to the season, it seems that the Oilers are regulating that issue at long last.

The Stuart Skinner drama is over.
The news comes as the Edmonton Oilers are acquiring goaltender Tristan Jarry and forward Samuel Poulin from the Pittsburgh Penguins, with Edmonton sending beleaguered goalie Stuart Skinner, defenceman Brett Kulak, and a second-round pick in the upcoming NHL draft.
Stuart Skinner started the 2025-26 campaign in a bit of a funk, posting an 11-8-4 record throughout 23 starts. Through his first 23 games, the Edmonton, Alberta native has a .891 save percentage (a numerical expression of the shots saved vs total shots faced by a goaltender), while giving up just shy of three goals per game.
Meanwhile, goaltender Tristan Jarry has experienced a renaissance of sorts this season. He’s posted a 9-3-1 start to the season through thirteen starts, while recording a .901 save percentage and conceding just over 2.5 goals per game.
Despite a poor start to the 2025-26 campaign, the Edmonton Oilers have earned points in the standings in four of their last five games. The Oilers’ upcoming five-game road trip should be an opportunity for the team to put some more points in the bank ahead of a massive six-game slate to close 2025, which sees Edmonton play Calgary twice while also travelling to play the Winnipeg Jets.
It is unclear when Tristan Jarry will make his debut for the Edmonton Oilers, however DailyFaceoff is currently projecting him to be the starter ahead of the team’s Saturday evening encounter with the Toronto Maple Leafs.
