Since Isack Hadjar has been confirmed to race for Red Bull Racing in 2026, partnering World Champion Max Verstappen, and Arvid Lindblad is to join Liam Lawson in Racing Bulls, Tsunoda is left without a seat for the 2026 season.
That makes Abu Dhabi the last race for him as a Red Bull driver. Or?

Yuki Tsunoda started his career in Formula 1 in 2021 when he was racing for Alpha Tauri alongside Pierre Gasly. You may also remember him racing in the same colours as Daniel Ricciardo for Racing Bulls. It was then when he took a chance to prove to everyone that Formula 1 is where he belongs. After long-term overcoming Ricciardo, his new teammate from the second half of the 2024 season was Liam Lawson. In 2025, Tsunoda was promoted to the main team Red Bull, replacing Liam Lawson who would switch back to Racing Bulls.
Lawson shared with us an emotional photo dump with a strong caption which said: “Being a Red Bull Racing driver has been my dream since I was a kid, it’s what I’ve worked towards my whole life. It’s tough, but I’m grateful for everything that’s brought me to this point.”
What makes it so hard to be a driver for Red Bull Racing? Not only is the car reportedly very difficult to manage, but also the pressure - your teammate is Max Verstappen. The team politics seems to make it very hard too.
Red Bull has confirmed that Yuki is staying in the team working as a test and reserve driver. This means he will become valuable in the simulator back at Milton Keynes, providing critical information on the cars set up both on and off Formula 1 race weekends.
