British F4 Stun Donington Park

From the 18-19th of April, British F4 raced around Donington Park, here is everything that went down.

Qualifying

For the first qualifying session of the year, every driver went out on a level playing field and aimed to be the quickest. In the end, McLaren development driver Dries Van Langendonck came across the line quickest and claimed pole. He also came through to claim the spot of fastest rookie. 

Returning driver Theo Palmer ended his lap 0.259 seconds behind to claim the second spot on the grid. In a very close battle, Jarrett Clark’s lap came 0.035 seconds slower than Palmer to claim third. Both of these drivers have raced here before and will aim to prove that experience in the races.

Race 1

After impressing in qualifying, Dries Van Langendonck came through to win the first race of the weekend, and subsequently the first race of the year. He stayed strong throughout the race, pushing in all the right places. Overall, proving why he is competing this year.

Theo Palmer kept his form from qualifying and came in to finish 2nd for Hitech, however the driver then received a post race penalty and dropped to 3rd place. Jarrett Clark was able to capitalise on this and jumped from 4th to 2nd, following a penalty also for Joseph Smith

Race 2 

Ethan Lennon came in to claim reverse grid pole and lead the way at the start of the race. The race then consisted of three safety cars, and a red flag which resulted in a complete race restart - resetting it back to the original grid. However, throughout all this Lennon held on and came through to claim the win.

Coming through all the action was Lewis Wherrell, who held on to claim 2nd place. Red Bull rookie Scott Kim Lindblom remained strong throughout the race, to claim his first podium of the year, and also his first podium in the series.

Race 3

After an impressive race 1, Dries Van Langendonck started on pole again. He rinsed and repeated race 1 by leading every lap and coming in to claim the win. With multiple safety car restarts, an early one due to an ambitious overtake from Tommy Harfield, he remained strong and continued to lead - proving to McLaren why they chose to back him.

After a late mistake in the race, Joseph Smith capitalised and brought it home to claim 2nd place, and his second podium of the weekend. The Mercedes backed driver came in to finish 3rd. With an honourable mention to the top female of the weekend, Ella Lloyd who came in to finish 5th in race three.
