China, with their record of nine championship titles, entered the opening match full of confidence as they faced tournament rookies Bangladesh. From the first whistle, China looked determined to set the tone early in the competition. Although they had a goal disallowed in the opening stages, it did little to slow their momentum, as they continued to press forward with pace and precision.
Their breakthrough finally came in the 44th minute when Wang Shuang found the back of the net, giving China a deserved lead just before halftime. The goal lifted the team’s energy further. Only minutes later, midfielder Zhang Rui doubled the advantage with a powerful strike from just outside the box. The goal, scored during first-half stoppage time, ensured China headed into the break with a commanding 2–0 lead.
As the second half began, Bangladesh showed resilience and determination. Despite the scoreline, they refused to back down and tightened their defense considerably. Bangladesh’s 19-year-old goalkeeper stood out with an impressive display, making multiple crucial saves to deny China from going more ahead. Her composure and shot-stopping ability kept her team in the contest and prevented the scoreline from growing larger.
The Bangladesh midfielders also worked tirelessly, maintaining strong control and battling for possession throughout the game. Their discipline and teamwork were evident as they attempted to build attacking opportunities while remaining organized at the back.
In the end, China secured a 2–0 victory to start their AFC Asian Women’s Cup campaign on a strong note. Meanwhile, Bangladesh gained experience from the encounter and showed promising signs for the matches ahead.
