The AFCON fixture that saw Egypt face off against Ivory Coast took place in Agadir, Morocco at 2:00 PM EST today, January 10, 2026, as one leg of the quarter-final, where Egypt quickly took the lead from a goal by Omar Marmoush just 4 minutes into the match.
After thirty minutes, Ramy Rabia scored a header from Mohamed Salah's corner, giving the Pharaohs a two-goal cushion early on in the match. Seemingly comfortable before half-time, Egypt conceded an own goal sent in by Ahmed Fatouh, narrowing the gap from 2-0 to 2-1 just before half-time.
In the second half, Mohamed Salah scored a third goal for Egypt, assisted by Ashour Emam, in the fifty-second minute to give Egypt a two-goal advantage once again. Met by incredible force from Ivory Coast in the second half, Egypt defended well but ultimately conceded one more goal at the seventy-three minute mark from Cleve Doue, who scored a backheel, giving hope to Ivory Coast despite ultimately being defeated.
Egypt progresses to the semi-final of the competition where they will battle Senegal in Tangier, Morocco on January 14, 2026 at 12:00 PM (EST).
