With the Lionesses through to the Women’s Euro Finals, let’s have a recap of their efforts so far.

The Lionesses first began to defend their throne of Europe’s best against France during the group stage. Yet things didn’t go to plan as they lost 2-1, with Baltimore and Katoto scoring for the French and Walsh scoring for England.
Sarina then led the girls while fighting the likes of her home team- the Netherlands and Wales too. Lauren James scored the opening, then Stanway dinked one in the net. James decided one goal wasn’t enough for her and shot the ball into the goal, not long after Ella Toone joined the goal scorers and the match finished 4-0.

England glided through to the knockouts with a 6-1 result against Wales. Stanway, Toone, Hemp, Russo, Mead and Beever-Jones were England’s scorers that night. This valiant effort on and off the pitch secured the team their runners-up position in Group D.

England then set its sights on the knockout stages. The girls battled against Sweden in the quarterfinals. They were on the road home, being 2-0 and the clock slowly ticking down. Somehow, Sweden pushed on and equalised to take it to extra time. However, neither side struck the jackpot of a goal, so the pressure of penalties weighed heavily on the players' backs. With everything on the line, the Lionesses came through and clinched the semifinal spot.
England vs Italy- Who would go to the finals? Falling behind in the first half again to Le Azzurre, England needed to keep their heads high and spirits up going into the second half. With an equaliser that cut it close to the whistle, extra time was soon upon them once more. In the final moments, England’s Beth Mead was awarded a penalty. The penalty was taken by Chloe Kelly and guided into the goal on the second shot, taking the team into the finals.

With the last match of the Women’s Euros upon us, tensions are high. Can England retain their title or will we see a repeat of the World Cup? All will be revealed today at 6pm in Switzerland (5pm BST). But who do you have your money on?
