Autodromo Nazionale Monza:

Known as Ferrari’s hometrack due to their Italian heritage, Monza is a track where a lot of Tifosi are seen supporting their one and only Ferrari. The length of this circuit is 5.739 km, and it`s 53 laps long, with a race distance of 306.720km. The lap record here was set in 2004 by Barrichello at  1:21.046.

When was Monza built?

Monza was constructed in just 110 days back in 1922. 110 days? That is just incredible. It became the world’s third purpose-built track, which put it after the Brooklands in the UK and Indianapolis in the US. Just like those tracks, the original circuit featured a series of banked curves and also much of the “outfield” section that is still in use today. Monza opened their doors on September 3rd 1922, only a week before it hosted the 1922 Italian Grand Prix, becoming part of the original Formula 1 calendar back in 1950. and has ever since then hosted the Italian Grand Prix every year.

What’s the circuit like?

Formula 1’s fastest lap was set here at Monza by Williams driver Juan Pablo Montoya. He drove 260 km/h during practice for the Monza 2004 Grand Prix which should really give you an idea on how the track is, the locals calls it La Pista Magica for a reason. The cars are on full throttle for 80% of the lap, and hit their max speed on the track’s 1.1km start/finish straight. A series of big breaking zones into tight chicanes give their brakes a pretty good workout in the historic park section.

Why you should go?

This parkland setting of Monza is located just to the north east of Italy’s fashion capital, Milan. At this track, you can see the preserved Monza banking spotted in the background as the cars exit the Parabolica and over a flyover bridge the drivers pass under the route to the Variante Ascari, which leaves you in no doubt that you are in the presence of a very special race track. Fans that have attended say it’s like a one in a lifetime experience, such an amazing race to watch live, the whole weekend, all the vibes around the whole circuit and Tifosi’s dedication is also such a beautiful thing to witness, a Grand Prix that really brings a whole country together.

Best place to watch?:

Fans that have attended the Monza Grand Prix is recommending to aim for the grandstand that is located at the Variante del Rettifilo to witness an awesome spectacle of cars braking from around 350km/h to just 70km/h right before they come out to the tight chicane, this is also one of the best spots for overtaking on the circuit, and a magnet for first-lap tussels. If you choose to go you will not regret it, fans have called it one of the great big racing weekends, and you will not regret it if you choose to go.
