F1 Academy Takes On Silverstone

From the 3rd to the 5th of July, the F1 Academy championship will be racing around the historic Silverstone circuit alongside the F1, here is all you need to know.
This is the third round of the F1 Academy championship and marks the halfway point of the season, the championship fight is heating up with every point becoming more valuable. Currently Red Bull racing backed driver, Alisha Palmowski, sits top of the standings with 78 points after being on an incredible run of form. Audi backed driver, Emma Felbermayr sits 2nd with 53 points. The battle for 3rd place is split between Megan Bruce, Payton Westcott and Mathilda Paatz, with only two points separating all three of them.
This is the series debut at Silverstone, putting the series on a pedestal for British motorsport, but with that brings a whole new range of opportunities. Silverstone is known as the home of motorsport, meaning this race becomes one of the most watched by sponsors and others of the year. It brings a new level of exposure to the series, it gives the drivers a chance to prove themselves on a global stage when someone who matters might be watching. It’ll also expose more racing fans to the sport and get more fan backing behind the drivers.
When the series tested at Silverstone earlier in the year, the McLaren duo of Ella Lloyd and Ella Stevens stood out among the others. Both drivers will be celebrating their home race and also their team’s home race this weekend and will be wanting to prove why they are backed by McLaren. During testing Lloyd topped the overall timings bringing confidence in her this weekend, and a chance for her to perform.
F1 Academy also features a reverse grid race on Saturday. This is a prime opportunity for overtaking as the drivers that are faster round this circuit are starting from behind. It mixes the grid up and gives those who struggled in qualifying a chance to shine. But who will outshine the rest and win this weekend?
