Formula 2 follows the Formula 1 circus from Monaco to Barcelona for another weekend of racing. During the Formula 2 Sprint on Saturday we had a lot of action at Catalunya - here is what you missed.

Kush Maini started P2 and had a perfect clutch drop to steal the lead into turn one from Leon. All cars managed a fairly clean start with just some tussles for track position until contact was made between Durksen and Stenshore. Stenshore went for a dive into turn 11/12 before making contact with the rear of Durken’s Invicta causing him to skittle across the gravel, falling to the back of the field. Stenshore's move saw him receive a 10 second time penalty for causing a collision.

On lap 4 Kush Maini began setting fastest laps and extended his lead over Tsolov to around 4 seconds. In the midst of this Alex Dunne lost his front wing end plate going down the start finish straight with Goethe running over the body work spreading fragments across the track - luckily no one suffered a puncture from the incident.

Mini began making moves up the field taking third from Leon as Van Hoepen had a moment at the rear of the pack out of turn 14 sliding through the gravel trap. As the drivers settled into an orderly fashion we began to hear about track limit warnings at turns 13 and 14. Soon after Bilinski was awarded a 5 second penalty on lap 18 and another one less than two laps later for his 5th strike. Another driver that the stewards punished for excess track use was Villagomez. A few laps before Villagomez began to struggle with pace as Camara and Beganovic overtook him. His battle with Camara on lap 15 saw the Invicta driver bail for the escape road and a collision was noted but no penalty came from the situation.

Championship rivals Tsolov and Mini began their battle in the last 5 laps with Mini making contact with the Red Bull Junior in turn one taking off his front end plate. With the Hungarian driver at a disadvantage Herta pounced for the podium banging wheels into turn seven to steal third. However this manoeuvre would soon be undone as Herta dropped to 5th on the last lap, proceeding a huge lock up for the former InfyCar driver seeing him take a trip to the gravel trap on the last lap.

Kush Maini took the chequered flag for his third F2 Career win. Mini extended his championship lead to 71 points with the Alpine Juniors having a 1-2 finish. Tsolov remains second in the championship just 3 points between the pair so it is all to race for in tomorrow’s Feature Race.
