Cameroon Power, Pedigree and Pressure

Going into AFCON, Cameroon's biggest strength is within their Midfield as they have a mix of players who can both receive and pass the ball to and from one another very well. Their attacking players can also help one another break down the opposition, allowing them to drive the ball forward and score a goal. However, their defence hasn't been at its best in recent months due to the number of injuries that they are facing. 

Gabon, who are the underdogs with a bite

The Gabon National Team Squad these days may not have the same star power as it did all those years ago. However, they have been known in recent fixtures to break down their opponents. Going into AFCON, Gabon had a strong 2024 campaign but did not make it to the Final. But heading into AFCON 2025, they are determined to try to make the final this time around.

Cameroon, throughout the match, will try to dominate possession so they can then create attacking opportunities and score goals.

Gabon will stay compact so that they can close in on the tight spaces, collect the ball, and pass it on to another member of their team.

Goalkeepers on both sides will be crucial as they will make game-changing saves, such as saves from corners or free kicks, and also crucial penalty shots, either given from fouls or in penalty shootouts.

Gabon's Wide Players will also be crucial in this AFCON Group Stage game as they can get behind Cameroon's full-back players and create crucial chances, whether they go in or not.

Cameroon’s forwards will be crucial as they will be able to create important finishes which can create match-deciding goals. Their performance could mean deciding which team wins, or if match time goes into extra time or a penalty shootout.

What's at stake

Beyond the Group Stages, this is a rivalry that has lots of history behind it. But a win for either team will boost momentum and national belief. The game may also be crucial in terms of goal difference as the group stages go on.
