The third and final day at the 45th Ryder Cup held in New York City was full of surprises and twists for both Team USA and Europe.

In the end, Irishman Shane Lowry was the reason Europe was able to retain the trophy from their win last time around in 2023 and stop the USA from winning this year.
It came down to the final hole for Shane and his playing partner, Russell Henley. The 18th hole, where American-dominated crowds heckled and sang their hearts out, trying to distract any European player they could from doing their best to earn points for their team.
After a tricky shot out of one of the steep bunkers and onto the final green, Henley didn’t manage to sink his birdie putt, giving Lowery the chance to retain the trophy for Europe if he made his next putt.
Lowery sank his putt on his first attempt, meaning the cup is retained by Europe until next time, but not won at this exact moment due to lack of points.
Later, Tyrell Hatton made a par on the last hole to get Europe the half point they needed to not only retain but win the Ryder Cup.
