Inter Europol Gets Victory At Spa

The 4 Hours of Spa gave us multiple safety cars and a very chaotic race back after summer break. With an early safety car that set the vibe for a race full of action, with close battles in all categories.

LMP2

In the LMP2 category the Inter Europol Competition claimed the overall race victory with car #43 Oreca after the four hour race. Jakub Śmiechowski, Nick Yelloly and Tom Dillmann who took the chequered flag 3.3 seconds before the #10 Vector Sport Oreca.

The safety car played an important part in the race, it kept bringing the field back together which made sure that there were new opportunities for the teams to fight for a higher place in the standings. At the front, Inter Europol and Vector Sport remained very close together, which caused a good battle for the overall win during the whole race.

The #43 eventually held onto the lead to take victory, giving them a memorable return to the top step.

LMP2 Pro/AM

The LMP2 Pro/AM also gave us big battles. The AF Corse got victory with car #83 after fighting for the lead during the closing stages of the race.

Matthieu Vaxiviere and Louis Delétraz were involved in a close fight late during the race. The two drivers came together at Les Combes, after contact, Delétraz spun as Vaxiviere continued the race towards the chequered flag.

The race interruptions earlier in the race kept the field together, making strategy and the restarts really important. AF Corse eventually came out on top in the LMP2 Pro/Am, with the fight for the other podium positions behind them.

LMP3 and LMGT3

Rinaldi Racing took victory in LMP3 with the #5 Ligier after building a big gap. Mikkel Gaarde Pedersen crossed the finish line +54.482 seconds ahead of the rest of the LMP3, with CLX Motorsport and R-ace GP completing the podium

The LMGT3 category gave us a close fight. GR Racing #86 Ferrari battled throughout the field during the final part of the race with the #77 and the #62. Lorcan Hanafin held on to take the victory, with the top three separated by just 10 seconds.

We had a total of six safety cars disrupted the race during the first 2 hours after several incidents around the track. With cars going into the gravel and the barriers, but we also had collisions between drivers which required a safety car.

The repeating of safety cars during that period of time prevented the leaders to build big gaps and gave most teams a fresh chance after each restart. With a bit less interruptions in the second half, the focus got more on the battles for the win across the categories.

With Spa done, the ELMS is headed towards Silverstone. where the British circuit will host another 4 hour race. The teams will start preparing for another important weekend.
