The 2026 Italian Grand Prix was a thrilling and unpredictable race, where the overtakes happened until the checkered flag. This article will tell you everything that happened so if you missed it, you will still be up to speed.

A Tale Of Two Leaders
Marco Bezzecchi started from pole after breaking the all-time lap record in qualifying, but it didn't start the way he wanted, because Francesco Bagnaia who drives for Ducati Lenovo racing team made an amazing start from sixth on the grid, slicing through the field and getting the lead by the end of the third lap. Bagnaia was in the lead for the first half of the grand prix, with Bezzecchi and his teammate Jorge Martín closing in behind him.
However, Bezzecchi was running out of time to get the lead back. Once Bezzecchi launched his counter-attack, he left the field far behind him. Bezzecchi made a decisive move to claim the lead back and dropped a +1.46 second lap that broke the spirits of the once chasing him. He crossed the finish line with +3.559 seconds clear of his Martín to claim his fourth grand prix victory this season.

Last-Lap Drama For The Podium
While the Aprilias got another 1-2 this weekend, there was a fierce battle going on for third place. Jorge Martín had comfortably got past Bagnaia for second place early on in the race, leaving Bagnaia vulnerable to Ai Ogura. Ogura, who is riding for Trackhouse racing, put on a masterclass of a drive by making his way for the lower half of the top ten, passing Fabio Di Giannantonio, Marc Márquez and Pedro Acosta.
On the very last lap of the race Ogura made his way past Bagnaia at the penultimate corner to get third place, however that didn't last very long, because Ogura went wide, allowing Bagnaia to slip back and get back that third place, and bring home third place by 0.034 seconds.
Mid-Pack Warfare and Track Limit Penalties
Behind the lead, there were some fierce fights in the mid-pack. Fabio Di Giannantonio showed an amazing drive to get fifth place. Pedro Acosta and Marc Márquez went head-to-head in a battle for sixth place, with Acosta getting sixth place ahead of Márquez who got seventh.
Sprint-winner Raúl Fernández crossed the finish line ahead of Aldeguer but he was handed a one-position penalty for exceeding track limits, dropping him to ninth on the grid. Meanwhile, the Moto3 graduate Diogo Moreira had an impressive weekend by getting tenth for Honda.
