San Marino Grand Prix Recap

To begin with, Jorge Martin started his race with a double long lap penalty after having to switch to his spare bike when his first one failed to take him round his lap to the grid.

Marc had a great launch to take him to second in turn one. We had a first lap incident between Zarco and Mir that brought out the first yellow flag of the Grand Prix. The FIM then awarded double long lap penalties to Alex Rins and Augusto Fernandez for jump starts. Ai Ogura crashed in sector 3 in the third lap which ended his time on track while Vinales also crashed a lap later and a sector early. From lap 8 to lap 12, we had another 4 DNFs with Acosta having his bike chain come, Bagnaia, Rins and Bastianini all crashing.

We had a dramatic, intense battle for first between Marco Bezzecchi and Marc Marquez for over half of the Grand Prix. On lap 12, Marquez managed to pass his rival after Marco went wide in sector 4. With both of them receiving a track limits warning, the pressure mounted to stay off the green paint. Despite this, both riders put in fastest laps which eventually was set by Marc Marquez. With Marquez taking gold and Bezzecchi settling with silver, Alex Marquez had a quiet and clean race on his own to take a peaceful P3. As Marc Marquez won the San Marino Grand Prix, he set a new record for the most points scored in a single MotoGP season yet (512 points total so far).

Looking ahead to Japan

If Marc Marquez can outscore his brother by three points at the end of the next GP, he has the chance to win the Championship in Japan. We expect Bezzecchi to put up another epic fight with Marquez, giving us some drama in this Ducati dominance. We are sure to always have a fantastic race in Japan but certainly Zarco will want to reach the chequered flag in the top 15, after back-to-back pointless results.
