The Rising Star: Lucia Kendall Dream Like Goals At 22

Lucia Kendall, 22 years old midfielder from Winchester. Playing for the England senior team. How has she got to this level already?

Lucia started off her professional career at Southampton women's team after being in the Southampton regional talent club and Southampton's academy. Making her senior team debut at sixteen years old in 2020.Over her five years with Southampton Lucia had 103 appearances and 29 goals for the club helping them get promoted within her time at the club. In this time she played in both the national league tiers and championship (now known as wsl2) with Southampton. Playing week in week out against professionals that had been playing for many more years.

On the twenty third of July 2025 it was announced that Lucia Kendall had left Southampton to join Barclays women’s super league one team Aston Villa. A massive step in her career. Lucia made her debut for Aston Villa in a fixture against Chelsea coming on as a sub in the 67th minute. Since then Lucia has been consistently playing games and starting a lot of these matches. She got her first goal for the club in a league cup fixture against Birmingham city which was a 3-3 game which Birmingham city won 4-2 on penalties.

Her efforts clearly impressed lionesses manager Sarina Weigman as she got called up for the first time for the lionesses senior team at only 21 years old for a set of friendly fixtures in England called “the homecoming series” named due to it being after the lionesses had won the euros 2025 in Switzerland. Lucia remained on the bench for the first game, a 2-1 defeat against a ruthless Brazil women’s team at the Etihad stadium in Manchester. Lucia’s senior lionesses debut came the following week. A start against the Australian women’s national team more commonly known as the Matilda’s. Playing against some of the best in the women’s game including players like Sam Kerr, Ellie carpenter and Kyra cooney-cross. She played the full ninety minutes in the game, with the lionesses securing a 3-0 victory over the Matilda’s. It was a possession filled game for England highly influenced by the red card given to Alanna Kennedy in the eighteenth minute of the game. Lucia was calm and composed in the game with a 98% passing accuracy in the game and with five chances created, she made her talent clear.

Lucia’s first goal for the England senior team came in an almost perfect way. The game was held on the 2nd of December 2025 in a friendly in the same homecoming series in a game against Ghana's women’s team also known as the black queens. The game was played at St Mary’s stadium which is normally homed to both Southampton's men’s and women’s team. Lucia scored a goal in a fairytale type way in the start of her professional career. Seven minutes in, Lucia scored to make the score 1-0.  The game ended 2-0 with Lucia’s goal and a last minute penalty taken by Alessia Russo after a handball while defending was made by Comfort Yeboah. An almost magical end of the year for Lucia the same year when she first got called up to the lionesses senior team.
