After being eliminated from the quarter-finals, these teams were allowed to find their place in the 2027 Women’s World Cup. Read ahead to find a recap of the game and what it means moving forward towards the World Cup.

A slow start to the game had both teams fighting each other for control of the ball and, in turn, the pitch. The Philippines were able to lead possession by a fraction, keeping Uzbekistan on their toes, but not far enough to be able to score or relax just yet.
In the 35th minute, Uzbekistan substituted Ilvina Ablyakimova onto the pitch to give their team the push they needed to fight harder.
In the 47th minute, a goal from Angela Beard put the Philippines up 1-0 and gave them the confidence they needed to keep pushing.
In the 52nd minute, Jaclyn Sawicki doubled her team’s lead, putting the Philippines 2-0 up.
Shortly after the two goals, Uzbekistan were faced with two yellow cards for Dilrabo Asadova and Diyorakhon Khabibullaeva in the 56th and 58th minutes. This was followed by a substitution, bringing on Dildora Nozimova.
Two substitutions for the Philippines and another for Uzbekistan filled the second half, right up until the 90th minute, when the Philippines used another substitution to bring on Natalie Oca.
As the game came to an end, the first goal scorer of the game, Angela Beard, was handed a yellow card for an incident on the pitch.
As the final whistle blew, the Philippines celebrated, with the knowledge that they had just secured a spot in the Women’s World Cup, a huge accomplishment for any team, but especially a small country from Southeast Asia.
The Uzbekistan team felt disappointed with the result, but proud of their journey to the qualifiers and proud of their run during the Asian Cup tournament.
