#66 Tresor Attempto Racing Wins in Chaotic GT World Challenge EU Monza Race

On the 31st of May, the GT World Challenge Europe race took place at Autodromo Nazionale Monza for a chaotic three-hour endurance race seeing the #66 Tresor Attempto Racing win.

To briefly recap qualifying, #65 HRT Ford Racing started on pole for Silver Cup, #99 Tresor Attempto Racing for Gold Cup, #87 Winward Racing for Bronze Cup and the #64 HRT Ford Racing started on pole for the Pro Cup.
The race saw absolute mayhem in the opening-lap incident which took out about 9 cars at the first corner. Following this, it was Maxime Martin who took over the lead of the race in the #17 Mercedes. A safety car was almost immediately deployed while safety crews cleared up the incident areas. The incident led to 7 retirements, including #80 Lionspeed GP, #65 HRT Ford Racing, #64 HRT Ford Racing, #59 Garage 59, #10 Boutsen VDS and the #51 AF Corse.
Team WRT #49 car driven by Rossi drove into the pitlane and came to a halt at the pit exit after an electrical failure straight after his pitstop making him another retirement of the race.. Some cars pitted while the race was still under safety car conditions, making one of their mandatory stops on Lap 5. At the end of Lap 6 the green flag was out meaning the cars went back to racing with Martin in the lead and also getting investigated by the stewards for causing an incident at the beginning of the race.
For the Verstappen Racing #3 car, Juncadella got told the team was gambling on a EDS, also known as an extended driver stint which would include a yellow flag stint in a later part of the race.
As the cars goes through around the chicane the #24 Steller Motorsport car of Mikkel Mac gets spun but managed to get his car back in the right direction safely. The race started with 57 cars and effectively it had gone down to 48 cars with the #4 Optimum Motorsport of Harry George retiring somewhere along the way along with the #7 Comtoyou Racing car of Mattia Drudi.
The BMW and Ferrari went nose to nose which saw the #71 of Birch get spun by the #98 of Farfus and was able to rejoin the race successfully.
Car 992 was given a drive through penalty for pushing the #24 Steller Motorsport car. The #50 AF Corse went through the grass and had to rejoin the rest of the pack after leaving the run-off area. As being investigated by the stewards earlier, Martin was given a 3 minute stop and go penalty for causing a collision. On Lap 22 the #52 AF Corse also retired from the race. Lorenzo Ferrari saw his #99 Tresor Attempto Racing got spun again and came into the pits, nothing could be done to fix the front damage on the car so he became the next retirement.
At Ascari the #111 CSA Racing car of James Kell went into the barrier triggering a FCY (Full Course Yellow). During the FCY the #3 Verstappen Racing came into the pits and into the garage with some damage although with the length of the Full Course Yellow the issues could potentially get fixed. The #3 car got taped and pitted and came out onto the track a lap down with Chris Lulham now in the car.

The race went back into safety car conditions and the #17 Mercedes-AMG Team GetSpeed of Maxime Martin was chosen to be retired in the pitlane not long after they got the stop & go penalty out of the way. Stolz was the race leader at the safety car restart driving the #48 Mercedes-AMG Team MANN-FILTER.
At the first chicane, the #74 Ferrari spun but managed to get back on track. Lulham for Verstappen Racing parked the car at the Ascari chicane after going off in the gravel which led to another Full Course Yellow making it the third caution period of the race. There was some contact between two of the Corvette’s which led to one driving through the gravel.
It was the #914 car of Kolovos that went off in the gravel between both Lesmo’s which triggered yet another Full Course Yellow. Safety crews managed to get Car 914 back to the pitlane and back out to race. The safety car was deployed soon after this and with 67 minutes remaining the race was back underway with green flag conditions.
At Turn 2 the #555 car was spun and couldn’t go past until all the cars got past. The #222 2 Seas Motorsport car had damage to the engine causing smoke and fire with oil coming onto the track triggering a Full Course Yellow. The pack was then back under safety car conditions and went back racing with 7 minutes to go. Ben Dörr went wide of the bump and over the gravel managing to get back on track.
There was impact to the #25 Sainteloc Racing and #9 Pure Rxcing cars who went straight into the barrier with four and a half minutes to go and the #87 Winward Racing cars were out, with the safety car deployed again up until the end of the race.
In the end, it was #66 Tresor Attempto Racing who secured victory after starting 29th of the grid.
