Alfie Ward: A Karting Prodigy in the Making
Ward finished his first Micro Max National Championship of the Super One Series in eighth out of 42 drivers, lets recap his season.
Prior to racing in the Super One Series, Alfie Ward had raced in the UKKS Bambino National Championship where he finished third overall in the standings. Making the move up to the Micro Max category of Super One for 2026, starting off with a O Plate Race Weekend at Rowrah where Ward finished in 14th following a 5-place penalty for an incorrectly positioned front fairing.
The first two rounds of the series also took place at Rowrah during the opening weekend of April which saw Ward get 26 points in Heat 1 and 28 points in Heat 2 on the Saturday. During the first race of the season Ward took his best finish of fourth which saw him accumulate 109 points in Round 1 of the season. Round 2 took place the following day with 19 and 23 points being scored over both heats respectively and an eighth place finish.
With Rounds 3 & 4 taking place at the Welsh GYG (Glan-y-Gors) circuit, Ward collected a total of 43 points in both heats of Round 3 and a 14th place race finish following a 5-place penalty for an incorrectly positioned front fairing. Round 4 saw 21 points scored over Heat 1 and 26 in Heat 2. Ward finished Round 4 in 22nd place after dropping down the order from 12th to 23rd
At the beginning of June, Micro Max came to the Clay Pigeon Raceway for Rounds 5 & 6. Round 5 on the 6th of June saw Ward get 61 points over both heats with a race finish of 11th place. In the sixth round, 30 points were scored in Heat 1 and 18 in Heat 2 and another 11th place finish bringing his points total to 667 at the mid-way point of the season.
The second half of the season started off at Fulbeck for Rounds 7 & 8. Heats 1 & 2 saw the Brit get 24 points in both and finished the race in P18 following a 5-place penalty for incorrectly positioned front fairing. Round 8 saw Ward score 27 and 30 points in the heats with a P19 race finish following a 5-place penalty.
Whilton Mill hosted Rounds 9 & 10 with Ward collecting 46 points over the two heats in Round 9 with a P19 race finish. Round 10 saw 26 points scored in Heat 1 and 27 in Heat 2 with a ninth place race finish.
Shenington saw the final two rounds of the 2026 Super One Series take place. This is where the dropped scores rule came in for Ward which determined his position in the final standings after minusing the two lowest scoring rounds. As a result of this, Alfie Ward ended the championship with 960 points, an eighth place finish for the British driver.
Ward will now enter an extensive winter schedule before joining the Champions of the Future Programme in 2027.
