Race Recap:

At lights out pole sitter David Alonso retained his lead into turn one with the rest of the field filing through absent of any first lap incidents for our grid. The first couple laps saw the field ever changing with each rider jostling for track position to then settle into a rhythm and look after their tyres.

A long lap penalty for Ivan Ortola carried from his collision in Balaton Park usually means a rider loses a few places but not for Ortola. He kept his second place and went hunting for lead rider Alonso leaving the rest of the field in the dust by setting a new lap record. This wasn’t held for long as home hero Filip Salac set a new fastest lap which was nearly a second faster than the previous year’s record.

Aron Canet who had been running in P22 has recently been struggling to get the race results we have been used to in the past and this race was no different with the Spanish rider crashing out of the Grand Prix on Lap 8 at Turn 8.

Flips Salac continued his charge and went from fifth to third in one overtake past Agius and Guevara. Not long later Agius lost his right knee pad putting him at a disadvantage when turning into corners leaving him P6 when the flag fell.

By Lap 14 there was a three way fight for the win which would go down to the last corner. David Alonso, who had led for the majority of the race, was divebombed into the final corner by Ortola who ended up taking away Alonso’s chance for gold (after nearly a year's wait since his last in Hungary 2025) and clinching his maiden win in Moto2. Salac kept his third place to join the pair on the podium in front of his home fans - a special moment for the American Racing Rider.
