After many track limits penalties during qualifying and grid penalties being applied following the first race, it is Hillspeed’s Demitri Nolan who will start Race 2 on pole for the first time in his GB4 career. Behind him will be Dayton Coulthard for Douglas Motorsport. Starting in third will be Fortec Motorsports’, Jordyn Martin - the American driver got her season best result of P5 in Race 1. Rounding up the top 5 will be Arden Motorsport’s Michael Koh and Fox Motorsport’s Jasser Iskander - both drivers retired from yesterday's race but are looking to make a comeback for Race 2.

Antonia Rankin caught up with Nolan ahead of his very first pole position.

AR - “Demitri, what an absolutely unbelievable way of securing a pole in Race 2. Can you talk us through your emotions surrounding that?”

DN - “Very nervous, very cautiously optimistic, it’s good to get a pole but also a bit weird to get it in this way, I’m just glad I kept it on the track.”

Lights went green for the second race, it was a jumpstart from championship leader Fred Green. Towards the front of the grid, it was Coulthard that managed to get ahead of Nolan going into Redgate. There was contact between the Fortec’s of Thomas Ingram Hill and Jordyn Martin as Fred Green got pushed off track after Martin had a lockup at the final corner which led to the safety car being deployed.

On the opening lap, Pace Performance’s Torrin Byrne went from 17th up to 9th, an exceptional first lap performance.

With the safety car coming in with 11 minutes to go, an excellent restart from Coulthard. Thomas Ingram Hill went into the barrier and Michael Koh who started in fourth went off track putting the race back under safety car conditions. It was also a retirement for Pace Performance’s Josh McLean. A black and orange was waved for the No. 95 car of Solenn Amrouche for her front wing.

Another black and orange flag waved for Demitri Nolan for his rear wing, losing positions over the lap before making his way to pitlane, an unfortunate finish for him after starting on pole.

There’s contact between Willis and Rujugiro and it’s Rujugiro who goes off and loses his front wing. Hillspeed’s Willis retired from the race not long after this.  We see Torrin Byrne make a move on Jasser Iskander and up to third went the Pace Performance.

A slight mistake from the Hillspeed of Enzo Hallman who is missing his front wing and there’s also a collision between the Fox Motorsport of Jasser Iskander and the Pace Performance of John O’Donnell.

Across the chequered flag went Coulthard to finish first, with Luke Hilton in second with back to back podiums. For the very first time it was Torrin Byrne on the podium with an exceptional drive from 17th to 3rd.

Antonia Rankin spoke to the podium finishers, starting with Dayton Coulthard.

AR - “What an absolutely exceptional race that turned out to be, absolutely filled to the brim with action, Dayton a third podium in a row for you and a race victory, congratulations!”

DC - “Thank you very much, good race, it helps a lot with championship points, second podium of the weekend, so far so good.”

Rankin then spoke to Luke Hilton.

AR - “Luke Hilton, man of the weekend, you’re pulling some great results out of the bag.”

LH - “It’s been a nice weekend so far, my team said to me before that race, you’ve got nothing to prove now, just go and collect points and I tried my hardest. We had to carve our way through a fair bit of traffic and obviously there were incidents we had to miss. A massive thank you to the team, again prepping a lovely car to drive throughout the race.”

She then spoke to Torrin Byrne

AR - “Torrin Byrne of course a first time podium sitter, Torrin, congratulations, how are you feeling?”

TB - “It feels amazing, P17 to P3, stayed out of trouble and it paid off.”

After Round 8 it is now Alex O’Grady who leads the championship from Fred Green by 14 points. Round 9 will be taking place today 15:00 GMT.
