EUROPEAN ATHLETICS U23 CHAMPIONSHIPS BERGEN NORWAY 2025 (KEY EVENTS)

The 2025 European Athletics U23 Championships in Bergen, held from July 17–20 at Fana Stadion, was a showcase of emerging talent and memorable moments

Niels Laros - Men’s 800m & 5000m

From the Netherlands, Niels Laros completed his third double in a major age-group distance double. At the European athletics U18 championships 2022 he was a double european champion in the men’s 1500m and 3000m. The same goes with the European athletics U20 championships 2023 that he was double european champion at men’s 1500m and 5000m. Two years after at the European athletics U23 championships 2025 he is the double european champion on the men’s 800m and 5000m.


Saga Vanninen - Women’s Heptathlon

Saga Vanninen from Finland is the double european U23 heptathlon champion, who went from winning the gold at home in 2 years ago 2023 to winning it again but this time she won with 6563 points, setting a new Championship Record.


Great Britain - Women’s 4X100m

Team Great Britain with the athletes Nia Wedderburn-Goodison, Kissiwaa Mensah, Alyson Bell and Success Eduan wins the women’s 4X100m gold medal in 42.92 and sets a new Championship Record . Also Great Britain is the first ever team that goes sub-43 in European U23 championships history.


Maciej Megier - Men’s 3000m Steeplechase

 Another championship record is smashed by Maciej Megier from Poland who breaks the 22-year-old 3000m Steeplechase and sets a new Championship Record with 8:20.17.


Audrey Werro - Women’s 800m

Audrey Werro from Switzerland did an impressive performance to win the European U23 women’s 800m gold medal and setting a new Championship Record with 1:57.42.


Jonas Phijffers - Men’s 400m

Jonas Phijffers from the Netherlands sets a new Championship Record and wins gold medal in the men’s 400m by clocking in at 44.82.


Henriette Jaeger - Women’s 400m

Henriette Jaeger from Norway takes home win in the women’s 400m by setting a new Championship Record 49.74 and wins gold medal in the european athletics U23 championships.


Emily Newnham - Women’s 400m Hurdles

From Great Britain Emily Newnham wins the European U23 gold medal in the women’s 400m hurdles and sets a new Championship Record with 54.08.


Owe Fischer-Breiholz - Men’s 400m Hurdles

Owe Fischer-Breiholz from Germany storms in the men’s 400m hurdles by breaking Kastern Warholm’s Championship Record of 48.37. The German athlete wins gold medal in the men’s 400m hurdles in 48.01.


Angelina Topic - Women’s High Jump

Angelina Topic from Serbia wins every age-group European and world gold medal. She was the European U18 champion and the same goes that she was European U20 & U23 champion and also she was a world U20 champion. She took the win in Bergen 2025 and the gold medal with 1.95m.


Great Britain - Women’s 4X400m

Team Great Britain with the athletes Poppy Malik, Emily Newnham, Rebecca Grieve and Yemi Mary John took the win in the women’s 4X400m relay in Bergen 2025 and set a new Championship Record and an European U23 record of 3:26.52.


France - Men’s 4X100m

Team France with the athletes Maxime Rebierre, Yoran Kabengele-Kabala, Mohammed Badru and Jeff Erius is the men’s European U23 4X100m champion with 38.43 setting a new Championship Record and a new European U23 record.


Spain - Men’s 4X400m

Finally, Team Spain with the athletes David García, Gerson Pozo, Markel Fernandez and Ángel González delivered on the men’s 4X400m relay with 3:02.02 setting a new European U23 record and a new Championship Record to win the gold medal at Bergen 2025.
