Formula E travelled from the sunshine state of Miami to the Middle East for their first double race weekend of the season. Here’s everything you missed from our all-electric racing division under the Saudi Arabian street lights.

Race 1
To begin the competitive weekend, Edoardo Mortara claimed pole in qualifying, giving him a competitive edge at the race start and marking Mahindra’s first pole of the season. Starting in second was Max Güenther, who narrowly missed out on pole by just 0.0095s. Pascal Wehrlein followed after a close fight to claim third for the race start.
The race start was delayed due to an issue with Nyck De Vries’ car, which had to be removed from the grid, resulting in a DNS for the Mahindra driver.
After this minor impediment, the race got off to a thrilling start, with Mortara launching with a burnout, opening the field up to challenge for first. Güenther capitalised on this and came through to claim first, followed by Wehrlein, whilst Mortara continued to drop. Staying with Lap 1, an incident occurred between Zane Maloney and Nick Cassidy leading to full course yellows and the race being neutralised. Unfortunately for Maloney, he was no longer able to continue and returned to the garage.
The action continued on Lap 16, with this being the first lap with pitstops and attack mode. Rowland rolled into the pits with a clean stop, and was soon followed by Eriksson who overshot his pit box, resulting in him being hit with a drive through penalty on Lap 20. Lap 16 also saw the first use of attack mode in the race by Güenther, who was trying to build a gap. From here, something of a domino effect played out, with pit stops and attack mode being deployed up until the end of the race.

By Lap 25, Wehrlein was in the lead by 7 seconds, however, Mortara was on a charge with attack mode in full effect. He quickly gained momentum and was able to cruise past those in front of him. Mortara made it up to second place, with 3 minutes of attack mode to spare.
Strategy really began to show with just four laps to go. Early attack mode takers, such as Dennis, were now struggling and beginning to drop down the field. The race ended with Wehrlein coming in first, closely followed by Mortara in second, and Evans in third.
Race 2
Mortara took his second pole of the weekend with Mahindra, but his teammate received a 60 place grid penalty and 10 second stop-go due to residual issues from Race 1. Joining Edoardo on the front row was Jake Dennis, closely followed by Da Costa.

Mortara held his lead with the rest of the pack side-by-side into the first couple of corners. Rowland then made a move on Mortara to take the lead.
Attack mode first was taken by Di Grassi, who moved up into fourth, opting to take an early advantage over the field. Pepe Marti was later awarded a black and white flag for his incident with Maloney, which saw the removal of the rear wing of the Lola Yamaha. At the halfway mark of the E Prix, the rest of the field started to filter into the attack mode activation zone. Lap 19 saw Jake Dennis pit due to a puncture from the debris from turn one.
Rowlands was understood to have an issue, due to him dropping from the lead into seventeenth place. However, Pascal managed to take his first win of the season in his 100th race. Mortara still took home silverware in second alongside Miami Race Winner, Mitch Evans.
