The NTT IndyCar series returned to the Road America this past weekend for a race filled with strategy twists, rare mistakes, caution periods and a dramatic race to the finish line. That ultimately ended in victory for Arrow McLaren driver Christian Lundgaard.

Championship leader Alex Palou led the field in the opening stages of the race, having started in pole position Palou was in prime position for the win. Despite a dominant run in qualifying the afternoon quickly unraveled for the Chip Ganassi number 10 driver as strategy and timely cautions took control of the race.
Lap 14 and 15 of the race saw Romain Grosjean lose a tire on pit exit resulting in a full course caution. Felix Rosenqvist who two laps earlier had overtaken David Malukas for second place, dives into the pits before the full course caution is thrown giving him track position over Alex Palou and ultimately when the race goes back to green Rosenqvist is in the lead.
On Lap 29 Alex Palou goes into the pits and upon exit he is assessed for a pitlane speeding violation, a rare mistake by the Spaniard. Despite the mistake Alex Palou gains advantage a lap later when another full course caution is thrown after Christian Rasmussen’s car stops on the track at the start / finish line, preventing Indy 500 race winner from going into pitlane.
When the race goes back to green on Lap 33, Marcus Armstrong racing for Meyer Shank Racing is in the lead of the race, with Malukas in second and Alexander Rossi in third place. By Lap 45 it seems the battle for first is between Armstrong, Malukas and Christian Lundgaard. When Lundgaard overtakes Malukas he begins his charge for first place chasing down Marcus Armstrong. With only 4 laps to go on Lap 41 of 55, Armstrong had engine failure causing him to drop back several places with Lundgaard set to inherit the win.
On the final lap, the battle for third became heated ultimately ending with Rahal in the wall as a result of contact with Will Power, resulting in a final caution. Christian Lundgaard managed to hang on to the wind, with second place going to David Malukas, and in third Kyffin Sympson.
