On Sunday the 29th of March it was time for the third race of the MotoGP calendar that was taking place in Austin, Texas at Circuit of the Americas. Marco Bezzecchi won this race, which means he has now won three races this season and, by winning this race it means that he now has five wins in a row. This race also had the second 1-2 for Aprilia and their two drivers.

A Record Breaking Performance

Bezzecchi started the race on Sunday wanting to prove a point after crashing in the sprint on Saturday. He started on the second row due to a grid penalty, and didn't hesitate for a second. By the end of the first lap he had taken the lead in front of the pack.

At the start of lap 4, Bezzecchi had officially made his way into the history books by breaking the record of most consecutive grand prix laps led, previously held by Jorge Loreonze, the record stood at 103 laps led, at the end of the race Marco Bezzechi made it 121 laps led, besides that also became the first rider since Marc Márquez in 2014 to win the first three races of a season.

The fight for a podium place

The fight behind the leader was an incredible tactical fight for a spot on the podium. Jorge Martín, who had the championship lead for a short while after winning the sprint on Saturday, started second place in this race. Martín passed rookie Pedro Acosta by using a late-race surge, by which he secured a back to back 1-2 for Aprilia, for the first time in their history.

Acosta, held onto third place and claimed his second Sunday podium of this season. The KTM rider was racing fiercely to make it to the podium even fighting with Bezzecchi in the opening-lap that saw bodywork fly off the Aprilia, lucky both riders stayed on their bikes.

Some tough luck

Marc Marquéz had a weekend to forget at one of his favourite circuits. After a collision on Saturday during the sprint he had to take a long lap penalty, he started the race P6, after the long lap he had to fight his way back through the crowd at the end of the race he finished P5. Francesco Bagnaia finished P2 during the sprint on Saturday, the Sunday didn't seem to go as good, he just couldn't seem to find the pace, he finished in P10 after being passed by Luca Marini and Raúl Fernández in the final rounds of the race. Ai Ogura had a good start to his race, fighting his way through the pack and even getting to P4, but when he was busy fighting for a spot on the podium he had to retire due to mechanical issues on Lap 16.

For some this was a dream weekend, for others it’s a weekend to forget. The next round of the 2026 MotoGP season is at Circuito de Jerez - Ángel Nieto in Spain starting on the 24th of April, so a new round for the drivers to show what they got.
