Moto2 took to the track in the Netherlands before MotoGP and gave the fans a lot to talk about.

Lap 1 was a fairly orderly start for Moto2 standards, with Ferrandez stealing the lead momentarily from Alonso. Guevara and Holgado had periods of leading the pack before our pole sitter reclaimed first place.
The first of many long lap penalties came for Joe Roberts after a jump start, just before the yellow flag came out for Munoz and Vietti’s crashes. Both were then sent to the medical centre for treatment. Fursato was told to drop one position after causing contact with another rider in the midfield.
We then began to see the start of many track limits warnings with Escrig the first to be awarded for exceeding track limits with a long lap penalty. When a rider receives a long lap penalty they have 3 laps to complete it and Escrig didn’t comply with this resulting in a double long lap penalty on Lap 14. Next to be warned was Holgado swiftly followed by Aguis and Gonzalez by Lap 16.

On Lap 17 Gonzalez managed to pass Alonso with surprising ease while Holgado and Garcia received long lap penalties and Oncu crashed out of the race at Turn 10/11 bringing out a yellow flag to that area of the circuit. Senna Aguis managed to catch up and pass Alonso for second as Guevara received a track limits warning but the position wasn’t held for long as the following lap the Colombian retook the place as Senna went wide into a corner. Alonso tried a dive into the chicane on Gonzalez but to no avail on the penultimate lap - he tried again on the final lap and the late lunge paid off with him taking his first win since Hungary the previous year.
In the post-race podium interview Senna went on to state he had to “attack right away” but his “front (tyre) was on the limit” so he couldn’t have gone for an overtake any sooner than he did. He was content on his consistency however is looking to improve his early race pace and invites the challenge of this year exclaiming to “bring on the rest of the season!”
Gonzalez’s interview was one of slight disappointment having lost the lead in the final moment. He tried to play his cards however struggled with front degradation and a small issue meaning he “lost concentration”. Manu was happy with his silver place and wanted to “keep pushing” for the rest of the season and continue the championship challenge.

Alonso was over the moon with his 20th win but told reporter Jack Appleyard he didn’t care about the championship and just wanted to do the thing he loves - racing bikes and giving his team and supporters great performances. When asked about the last 2 laps of the race he drew similarities to Moto3 and described it as “amazing” before thanking all his supporters.
