Przyrowski Takes First Victory at Hockenheim
The Polish driver took his first FIA Formula Regional European Championship victory at Hockenheim.
Going quickest in qualifying was championship contender Sebastian Wheldon and starting alongside him on the front row was R-ace GP’s Emanuel Olivieri. Before the race started there were a few penalties to note including a five place grid drop for Yuki Sano who failed to follow the single yellow flag protocol through Turn 2. Saeter was issued yet another penalty for impeding Andrea Dupe during qualifying.
All five lights were green, it was pedal to the metal as Olivieri got a better start off the line but into the first corner there was contact between Wheldon and Olivieri. Stolcermanis took the lead after this incident with Przyrowski making it up to second. The RPM driver made a move on Stolcermanis for first and got ahead just as the safety car was deployed. Gowda and Wherrell were also involved in the Turn 1 incident with both drivers out alongside Olivieri.
On the restart, Przyrowski kept the lead with Nakamura-Berta trying to close the gap. Further down the grid, Anurag spun but got back on track safely. Almaosherji and Gomez made contact, both dropping to the rear of the field. Stolcermanis tried to keep Al Dhaheri at bay but the R-ace GP driver took third. Another retirement came at the end of the race with Kostic in the barrier.
Crossing the line victorious for the first time in his Formula Regional European Championship campaign was Jan Przyrowski. Taking second and gaining vital points towards the championship was Kean Nakamura-Berta and rounding off the podium was Rashid Al Dhaheri securing the teams championship title for R-ace GP, winning it in back to back years.
