Men’s Big Air Qualifying – 5 February: High Stakes, Higher Altitude

On the 5th February 9am BST, the men's Big Air Qualifying kicks off and is shaping to be one of the most explosive opening - week events. With the event making its return to Livingo's purpose built Big Air structure. The first Free Ski of the event promises to set the main tone for the week, with progression being the expectation.

The Stage: Livigno’s Iconic Big Air Jump

Livngo, which is hosting the Milan Winter Olympics this year, has become a worldwide hotspot for freestyle skiing over the years. Its Olympic Big Air Venue is engineered for both amplitude and creativity.

  • A Steep forgiging landing - which is designed so that the Skiers get rewarded for their commitment.

  • A crowd-packed atmosphere - That turns every landing into a roar from the crowd.

What to Expect on the Day

The sport has evolved rapidly over the years, meaning that the tricks performed, which were once considered podium-worthy, are now standard quality material.

  • Switch triple cork in the 1620s

  • Forward Triple corn in the 1800s

  • Creative grab variations that separate the elite from the pack

Pressure on Big Names within the Sport

Olympic qualifying is unforgiving. But even the biggest names in this sport can underperform when under pressure. But 1 miss landing can affect how the results will look on the table.

Breakout Performances from Rising Stars

Big Air is a sport where young athletes are given a chance to shine and make a name for themselves. With fearless progression and many fresh trick variations. Many youngsters could punch away their ticket to the Big Air final.

Looking Ahead

The 12 athletes who make it out of the qualifying will make it to the final, which will happen on Saturday, 7th Febuary where the stakes and the expectations will only get higher. But if the qualifying round delivers what it is known for, then the final could be 1 of the defining spectacles of the 2026 Winter Olympics.
