Five people wearing bright orange/peach football kits are all congratulating each other. They are standing on the green grass of a football pitch. The background is blurry but shows a blue light reflection from the signs and fans behind them. The players are standing at different angles — two on the left are hugging each other, while the two centre players are facing slightly towards the right. Two players at the back are partially blocked by two players on the right, and one player on the right is facing towards the group. They all look extremely happy.
South Korea have had an epic start to the tournament with a 3–0 win against IR Iran.
Within the first half alone, South Korea had taken 20 shots, with one eventually leading to a shot on target just before half-time. Choe Yu-ri scored in the 37th minute as she rebounded the ball into the goal.
In the 59th minute, Kim Hye-ri took a penalty for South Korea and successfully converted it, putting South Korea 2–0 up. But that wasn’t the end for them. After lots of passing and strong attacking play, Ko Yoo-jin finished it off with a header in the 75th minute, leading South Korea to a 3–0 lead.
Unfortunately, Iran didn’t have enough chances to gain possession, with their team holding only 21% possession throughout the game and managing just three shots towards goal. In contrast, South Korea had 32 shots directed at goal.
Hopefully, Iran will have more luck in their next game against the host country, Australia, who have acknowledged the difficult circumstances Iran are currently facing.
Don’t miss the next matches — there are sure to be many more tough losses and brilliant wins ahead!
