Stevenheydens Takes Victory on GB4 Debut at Donington Park
The Belgian driver who took the place of injured Del Grosso this weekend at Donington Park took his first GB4 race win on debut.
With Yani Stevenheydens on pole once more in GB4 and his teammate for the weekend, Fred Green starting alongside him, could it be a double Elite Motorsport podium for Race 2 at Donington?
At the end of the formation lap, Matan Achituv headed into pitlane. The lights went green and it was Stevenheydens hanging onto the race lead as further down the grid Solenn Amrouche was off in the gravel. Yellow flags were waved for the incident and the safety car was deployed.
On the restart, Stevenheydens and Green got away well, with Yani having to defend from his teammate right on the back of him. Further down the grid, there were many wheel to wheel battles, Martin vs Rujugiro, Leverton vs Nolan, it was Martin and Nolan that managed to keep position. At the opening corner, Lily Watkins went off in the gravel trap and the race neutralised once more.
Returning to racing, Yani Stevenheydens was able to keep the lead. There was contact between Conor Grant and Josh McLean slightly further down the grid with Grant losing his front wing and McLean getting a rear puncture who went straight through the gravel trap at the final corner and left stationary on track. Archie Bullard also went off in the gravel making him the fourth retirement from this race.
Crossing the line victorious for the first time and on debut was Yani Stevenheydens and finishing in second was his teammate, championship contender - Fred Green. Rounding off the podium for Race 2 was Hillspeed’s Enzo Hallman.
