A look at the group of women who have stood on the Formula 1 podium throughout history - with the list growing after the recent Miami race weekend.

After another exciting race weekend in the pinnacle of motorsport, where the young Italian, Kimi Antonelli could take the trophy home for Mercedes, a new face was seen on the podium - adding a new name to Formula 1 history.
While the list remains small, it represents important milestones across different areas of the sport, showing how barriers are broken step-by-step.
Here is the full list of the 13 women to stand on the F1 podium from earliest to latest:
Lady Ginny Williams
Virginia ‘Ginny’ Williams was the very first woman to ever stand on the podium in F1 history and as the wife of Sir Frank WIlliams and mother of Claire Williams, she also played an active role in the early success of the WIlliams Formula 1 team.
Ginny stood on the podium at the 1986 British Grand Prix, alongside two Williams drivers, Nigel Mansell who had finished first and Nelson Piquet who had second. She accepted the constructors’ trophy on behalf of the Williams team and family.
She unfortunately passed away on March 7th 2013 at the age of 66, but she left a big impact for women in motorsport.
Gill Ganderton
At Gill Ganderton’s (previously Jones) 177th race, she stood on the podium at the 2013 Bahrain Grand Prix, in which Sebastian Vettel won.
Here Red Bull Racing made history as Gill - who worked as Red Bull Racing’s Head of Trackside Electronics at the time - was the first female member of an F1 team’s technical staff to appear on a F1 podium
Kim Stevens
Kimberly ‘Kim’ Stevens became the third woman to stand on a podium in F1 history, while also becoming the first to do so for the Mercedes-AMG Petronas Formula One Team at the 2015 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, alongside the winner, Nico Rosberg and runner-up, Lewis Hamilton.

The first time the Head of Race Strategy for Formula One team Red Bull Racing stood on the podium was at the 2019 Brazilian Grand Prix and the second time - as the only woman to ever do it twice - was at the 2025 Qatar Grand Prix.
In February this year, she was promoted to Head of Race Strategy at Red Bull, where she plays a vital role at every race, after having been Red Bull’s Senior Strategy Engineer for about 10 years and then Principal Strategy Engineer before the promotion.

With Mercedes again taking the top step, this time at the 2020 Austrian Grand Prix, the team chose Valtteri Bottas’ Trackside F1 Power Unit Engineer, Holly Chapman, to collect the award.
In her role - similar to Margarita Torres Díez - she is responsible for monitoring the performance of the Power Unit, while also working closely with the team to help develop it further.
Stephanie Travers
That same year, Mercedes got another woman from their team on the podium, the then Petronas Trackside Fluid Engineer, Stephanie at the 2020 Styrian Grand Prix, becoming the first black woman to stand on the F1 podium.
Her role at the time was to monitor the fuel and lubricants used by Mercedes-AMG Petronas during a race weekend, analysing samples to ensure performance and reliability.
After about 3 years with Mercedes, Stephanie switched from Formula 1 to Lewis Hamilton’s British Extreme E Racing team, where she was a Deputy Team Principal before becoming Senior Impact Manager at Lewis Hamilton’s Mission 44 and from January 2026 the Senior Trackside Fluid Engineer supporting the Aston Martin Formula One Team.
Joanna Fleet
The 10th woman to stand on the F1 podium was the Group Human Resources Director for Red Bull Racing and Red Bull Technology, Joanna, at the 2022 Spanish Grand Prix.
Her current role is unsure, but it's rumored that she had her departure from Red Bull Racing in early 2026 due to a staff restructure, though nothing is official.
