The sixth round of the MotoGP 2026 season is happening in Spain this weekend. This article will give you all the information that you need to know before this upcoming Grand Prix weekend, so you will be fully prepared for the upcoming battles.

The Catalan Grand Prix
The Catalan Grand Prix is almost here, it will take place from May 15th to May 17th at Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya. The Catalan Grand Prix is the sixth race on the calendar, and it will be an important one for the championship standings, because will Aprilia keep being dominant on track or will somebody else take the lead. This track is mostly known for the long and sweeping corners and its long main straight, the combination of these things are punishing for the tires.
After last weekend at Le Mans, the riders are arriving in Spain, with the championship having become even narrower than before. With the leaders starting to pull away for the rest of the grid, but the top 5 still is very narrow. With only once single point separating the two Aprilia boys, which means that even the tiniest mistake can mean that we will have a new championship leader.
The Circuit And Its Challenges
The Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya was opened in 1991 and is 4.66 km long. Unlike the Bugatti circuit which has a stop-and-go nature, this is a flowing high-speed track that requires corner speed and aerodynamic efficiency.
The circuit has 14 corners in total, with 6 corners to the left and 8 corners to the right. These corners demand good tire management, as the long corners like turn 3 and 4 create massive heat and wear on the tires. The key to getting the fastest lap at this circuit is the drivers ability to keep momentum through sweeping sections while also being able to stay stable under heavy braking at turn 1 after reaching speeds of 350 km/h or higher.

Current Standings
This is what the top 5 in the championship standings look like going into the weekend
1st: Marco Bezzecchi (Aprilia) – 128 points
2nd: Jorge Martín (Aprilia) – 127 points
3rd: Fabio Di Giannantonio (VR46 Racing) – 84 points
4th: Pedro Acosta (KTM) – 83 points
5th: Ai Ogura (Trackhouse Racing) – 67 points
Marco Bezzecchi is currently leading the championship, but Jorge Martín is close behind him with just a one point difference, but eyes will also be on Pedro Acosta, who is a local hero and is sitting fourth in the standings, he will be trying to get a win in front of his home fans.
The Home Drivers
For the Spanish Fans, this weekend will be filled with local heroes. Marc Márquez is one of those drivers, but sadly he is missing out of this grand prix, because of a right foot fracture, lucky the Spanish fans can have their eyes on Pedro Acosta or the other Spanish drivers on the grid.
We can also have our eyes on Ai Ogura, although he isn't Spanish. The Trackhouse rider goes into the weekend after becoming the first Japanese rider to stand on the MotoGP podium since 2012.
