The 22-year-old Spanish midfielder has agreed to a contract extension with the Catalan side until at least 2031 with a release clause of €500 million. After announcing his contract extension with the Blaugrana side on October 24th, 2024, Joan Laporta decided Fermín was more critical and wanted him in Barcelona’s long-term plans.

After joining the Catalan side in the summer of 2016, Lopez stayed in Barcelona’s academy, La Masia, until he was loaned out to Spanish second division side Linares Deportivo where he performed incredibly. He constantly worked to better himself as a player, and finally reached the first team in a friendly match against Real Madrid. During the match, he scored a beauty of a goal, fully cementing himself as a player of FC Barcelona’s first team, benefitting from the insight and aid of Spanish midfield legend turned coach, Xavi Hernandez.

The guidance from this legend helped Fermín Lopez get recognition from Luis De La Fuente, who called him up for a friendly against Andorra, assisting his Barcelona teammate Ferran Torres. After just 89 minutes in Euro 2024, he received another call up for Spain’s Olympic men’s team, earning the honour of being named Spain men’s all-time top goalscorer in the Olympics.

This season, Fermín is flying. Scoring 10 goals across all competitions, including becoming the first Spanish player to score a hat-trick with FC Barcelona in the UEFA Champions League, he is already attracting attention of many clubs around the world. One of these teams is Premier League side Chelsea FC, who offered €40 million for him in the summer. However, Fermín Lopez only has eyes for Barcelona and has his eyes on winning the Champions League with the Catalan side.
