The 2025/26 Formula E season begins on the 6th December in São Paulo. But what do you need to know?

This year marks the 12th season of FIA Formula E and the start of many changes. The most noticeable change is the number of teams. 2025 marked the end of the McLaren Formula E team, with the Woking-based team deciding to focus more resources into endurance racing. This means there are now two less seats on the grid, causing a domino effect among drivers. Taylor Barnard has made the move from McLaren to DS Penske, securing his drive for 2026.
Another noticeable name is Formula E rookie Pepe Martí. Martí has made the switch from Formula 2 over to Formula E. He joins fan favourite Dan Ticktum at Cupra Kirk. This will be the first time we see Martí racing in something other than a junior formula. Making this change will bring a lot of new challenges for him so we will have to wait and see how he fairs.

The reigning world champion, Oliver Rowland, returns for another season with Nissan. Rowland impressed fans throughout the 2024/25 season, taking 7 podiums, with 4 wins in that. Returning for 2025/26, he is hoping to defend his title and add wins to his name.

This season’s calendar includes some changes. Formula E will no longer be visiting Diriyah circuit in Saudi Arabia, instead switching to the Formula One standard circuit, Jeddah Corniche Circuit. This will bring new challenges but also new chances to all teams and drivers.
The new street circuit in Madrid has now also been added to the calendar. With it being a completely new circuit, it means there is limited data for teams to use. Teams will be going into that weekend with knowledge only from simulator sessions, meaning it’ll be a weekend to watch. Who knows what could happen?
The final addition is the return of Sanya in China. This circuit was previously on the calendar in 2019. It provided fans and spectators with thrilling racing, but was dropped in 2020 due to Covid-19. Since then, the organisers had chosen not to include it until now.
Overall, the 2025/26 Formula E season is building excitement. Testing showed some close race times across the grid and gave a peek into how competitive this year will be. With the drivers we have and the circuits we are racing at, this is not a season you want to miss.
