With the season finale last weekend in London, let’s take a trip down memory lane and review the 2025 Formula E season!

São Paulo E-Prix

Going all the way back to December last year, we started off the season in Brazil. Our opening pole sitter was Pascal Wehrlein, the 2024 champion, looking to continue his success. We didn’t know it yet but the soon-to-be 2025 champion, Oliver Rowlands, was just behind him in second.

In true chaotic Formula E fashion, we had an abundance of DNFs. This included: Nick Cassidy, Pascal Wehrlein, Jake Dennis, Lucas Di Grassi, Jake Hughes and Nico Mueller. Robert Frijns didn’t even get to begin the race, receiving a DNS for the opening race. From 22nd on the grid, Mitch Evans in his Jaguar, took the win in Brazil. Antonio Felix Da Costa came in P2 and rookie driver, on his debut, Taylor Barnard, got his first podium. Talk about an epic entrance!

Pascal and Antonio locked out the front row of the grid for Mexico and everything was looking hopeful for the season. Formula E had two more DNFs, one being the previous winner, Mitch Evans and the other being David Beckman. Oliver Rowlands took the chequered flag with Da Costa and Wehrlein getting a 2-3.

Jeddah E-Prix (Race 1 and 2)

Race 1:

Guenther took pole for DS Penske and Pascal kept him company on the front row. Guenther managed to convert his pole into a win, something that is immensely difficult in the chaos of strategies and DNFs of Mueller and Dennis. Rowland and Barnard came in 2nd and 3rd to finish Race 1’s podium. In addition, we saw the first DSQ of the season which was handed to Di Grassi.

Race 2:

Now, if you thought rookie Taylor Barnard was having an incredible season then you’d be right as he also claimed pole position for NEOM McLaren in Race 2. The British drivers performed well in Qualifying with Rowland and Hughes coming in P2 and P3. Taylor unfortunately missed out on his first win as Oliver Rowlands overtook him and won; he’d have to settle for second for now. Jake Hughes converted his third-place start into bronze and Jake Dennis, another British driver, came in fourth. We saw 3 DNFs that race, with Guenther, Da Costa and Evans all having a difficult day.

Qualifying saw an unexpected Norman Nato take pole with Jake Dennis marginally missing out. You might be wondering where Rowlands is. He had a difficult session and only managed P16. Surprisingly, we only had one DNF, which was last race’s third place- Jake Hughes. Pascal made a comeback to win, with Di Grassi splitting the Porsches in second, and they’d celebrate a 1-3.

Monaco E-Prix (Race 1 and 2)

Race 1:

Taylor and Oliver made a Monaco comeback by qualifying first and second. Meaning in less than half of the season, Barnard had taken two pole positions! Taylor struggled that day and came home in 15th, as Rowlands took another first-place trophy back to the Nissan Garage. Nyck De Vries and Jake Dennis finished in the podium places for Race 1. Formula E fans witnessed a DNF from Da Costa that day too.

Race 2:

Rowlands managed pole position this time around and De Vries slotted in second. In an unexpected turn of events, Swiss driver Buemi took the chequered flag ahead of Rowlands and Cassidy.

We did see DNFs from Di Grassi and Mueller.

Tokyo E-Prix (Race 1 and 2)

Race 1:

Our top three starters were: Rowlands, Mortara and Nato. Out in Japan, Stoffel Vandorne won the first race with Rowlands and Barnard on the podium again. Sadly, Guenther and Evans DNFed and Dennis was a DSQ.

Race 2:

Rowland claimed pole with Dan Ticktum starting beside him. Rowland converted this into a win and Ticktum lost P2 to Pascal and took home a bronze trophy to Cupra Kiro. Evans had another upsetting race with a DNS. We also saw Da Costa, Vandorne and Barnard DNF.

Shanghai E-Prix (Race 1 and 2)

Race 1:

Guenther denied Barnard another pole position and went on to win the first race. Vergne snatched away Taylor’s hope of silver but he placed third in the end. We only had one DNF that race, which was for Mortara.

Race 2:

Cassidy clinched the best starting position with Da Costa hot on his heels. Cassidy converted it to a win like Guenther had the day before, Pascal and Da Costa got Porsche another double podium as well. After Guenther’s high of a race win it soon went to a low with a DNF for the German.

Jakarta E-Prix

This time it was Jake Dennis stopping Taylor from another pole, and in Formula E fashion, we got to celebrate Dan Ticktum’s maiden win! He led Swiss drivers Mortara and Buemi to the podium, while we had a plethora of DNFs again. Those included were: Maxillian Guenther, Jake Hughes, Stoffel Vandorne and Nyck De Vries.

Berlin E-Prix (Race 1 and 2)

Race 1:

New Zealand driver Mitch Evans started on pole with Robert Frijns next to him on the grid. Evans was another driver to add to the list of pole-to-win conversions this year. Pascal and Edoardo were 2nd and 3rd. Nissan fans had a scare with a DNF for the championship leader, Oliver Rowlands. Dennis, Beckman and Vergne also DNFed in Race 1.

Race 2:

Pascal managed another front of the grid start with Dan Ticktum keeping him company. Nick Cassidy swooped in to take the chequered flag followed by Jake Dennis and Jean Eric Vergne. We saw four DNFs for Buemi, Bird, Guenther and Frijns. In addition, due to Rowland's consistent points finishes and placing x for Race 2, he took the Championship for the first time!

London E-Prix (Race 1 and 2)

Race 1:

Mitch Evans snatched up pole for Jaguar with De Vries starting second. His teammate, Cassidy, went on to win while he placed 10th. De Vries and Wehrlein joined the Jaguar driver on the podium, while Guenther, Hughes, Maloney and Ticktum suffered from DNFs

Race 2:

Dan Ticktum bounced back to take pole position with Cassidy carrying momentum to slot in second on the starting grid. Cassidy had a Stella weekend in London as he took another win to make it a hat trick! De Vries and Buemi joined him on the final podium for the 2024/2025 Formula E Season.

The season finale in England’s capital did see 5 DNFs, a heartbreak for some more than others. Mortara and Mueller both were out, however, the saddest ones were for the British drivers. Oliver Rowlands DNFed alongside both McLaren drivers: Sam Bird and Taylor Barnard, such a disappointing way to end the season, but also McLaren’s final race as they step away from the sport. Sadly, it means Bird and Barnard may have to bid Formula E goodbye, in these unfortunate circumstances that are out of their control. However, to end on a positive note, Porsche claimed back-to-back manufacturers' championships!

Summary

We have seen many highs and lows for every driver and team across the Formula E grid in 2025. Crashes, issues, and disqualifications come hand in hand with the outstanding overtakes, great strategies and glorious wins.

Now we move into the off-season. Can Nissan keep up their success and take it into the 2025/2026 season? Only time will tell, but for now happy racing everyone!
