This Sunday in Shanghai is a day to remember, not just for Mercedes fans or Italians but for Formula 1 fans all over the world. After numerous battles for positions, it happened to be the past, present and future of Mercedes standing on the podium with Kimi Antonelli holding his first ever winner’s trophy!

Andrea Kimi Antonelli is a nineteen-year-old Formula 1 driver racing for Mercedes AMG Petronas Formula 1 Team who made his debut last year in Melbourne, replacing the 7 time World Champion Lewis Hamilton. Toto Wolff made the choice to give Hamilton’s seat to an Italian teenager, which raised many questions regarding his judgment. Today, Antonelli proved them all wrong.
On Saturday, it was Antonelli who took pole position and on Sunday, he had to fight to get the top spot back after being overtaken by both Ferraris at the start. Proving his talent, he got it done and will now be taking the golden trophy home. His first-ever win was an emotional one across all at the circuit and fans at home, especially his father who was there to watch him and be able to share the moment with him, being one of the first people to hug Antonelli and proudly congratulate him after finishing the race.
“You made me achieve one of my dreams.” Kimi Antonelli to his team on his first ever win at the Chinese Grand Prix.
The other Mercedes driver, George Russell, took second place and right after him, third came Lewis Hamilton. They celebrated together on the podium alongside Peter Bonnington, Antonelli’s race engineer who once worked with Hamilton during his many years with Mercedes, making this Grand Prix even more special. Truly a race to remember!
