Ireland v Italy

The match kicked off at 2:10pm on Saturday and what was special about this was that Holly Davidson became the first female to referee a M6N Match. Lynagh was awarded a yellow card for a deliberate knock on when there was an opportunity for a line break for Ireland, 10 minutes in. With a man down Ireland capitalised on this to take a try courtesy of Osborne, making it 5-0. A penalty given to Italy was successfully taken by Garbisi 20 minutes in to give Italy their first points. 31 minutes in a yellow card was given to Casey and went to the bunker for head on head contact. After an intense line out Italy fought to take their first try with Nicotera and Garbisi got his conversion to make the scoreboard 5-10.

Our second half started and Ireland kept possession of the ball. Less than five minutes in, Conan delivered a second try while Prendergast missed his conversion for the second time. Lynagh managed to score his second try in two matches but this was stripped from him due to a forward pass from Menoncello. After a great opportunity-making play by Ireland, it paid off with Baloucoune making a break, shrugging off Italian tackles powering to the try line. Crowley took the conversion, elevating the score to 17-10. A penalty was given to Ireland and Crowley then added another 3 points to their lead. Not long after Italy were rewarded a penalty after a scrum and Garbisi made it 20-13 to Ireland. The score remained the same and the clock went red for over 4 minutes but Prendergast made the ball dead kicking it past the try line.

England v Scotland

The most anticipated game of the Men’s Six Nations is by far the Calcutta Cup. Ford kicked off the match and not long after Finn Russell took a penalty to take 3 points. Arundell was given a yellow card 7 minutes in for not releasing and not supporting his own body weight. This allowed Scotland’s Jones to score the first try and Russell scored the conversion already making a lead of 10 points. Scotland had the dream start with Ritchie making it 15 points in 14 minutes. Arundell (after his card) came charging back to get England their first try of the game, fighting back on the Scottish pressure making it 17-7. An offside by Scotland's Ritchie gave Ford the opportunity of a penalty that he took with poise decreasing their opponents lead by another 3 points. Scotland weren’t going to back down with White storming through to snatch a try, Finn added to their score with another conversion. Arundell was then given his second yellow card making it a red card (the first ever in a Calcutta Cup match!), therefore a total of 30 minutes off the field majorly putting England on the backfoot, for a tackle mid air. By the end of the first half the score was 24-10.

Tension was in the air, over England with a man down and the likes of Russell having a phenomenal performance, for the Red Roses. George Ford took another penalty making the score 24-13. Jones then charged down the entire pitch to take another try after Ford’s kick got blocked and the ball was stolen. Russell added to the score making it 31-13, with the additional bonus point to their name. In a final push from England, Ben Earl managed a try and Ford got the conversion, but the effort was too little and too late with the game finishing as 31-20 giving Scotland the Calcutta Cup.

Wales v France

Less than two minutes in, Gailleton scored the first try after a great break and lay off by Ollivon while Ramos scored the conversion to take a 7 point lead. After a 5m line out from Wales’ try line, France capitalised on the opportunity and Bielle-Biarrey took another try making it 12-0. Another break through Wales’ line rewarded Brau-Boirie’s first try, making their lead 19 points. Wales then came back at France advancing into their territory but a held up ball the first time denied them points but less than a minute later Carre scored for Wales. A chip of the ball by Ramos over the line resulted in Attissogobe getting a try for a brief moment but an offside penalty denied them more points. With just 2 minutes till halftime, Jalibert and Ramos made the score 26-7.

Our second half was kicked off by France and 4 minutes in, Marchand increased France’s lead. Attissogbe scored his first legal try and Ramos kept his kicking strong to make the score 7-40. Before long Attissogbe got his second try making the advantage 40 points. After 14 phases Ollivon got himself a try and France were dominating the pitch. Another burst of hope to at least score from Wales, came as a result of an offside by France, and Grady getting a try but it’s too little too late (similar to England) and the final score was 12-54.
