Seventeen-year-old German driver Mathilda Paatz has secured a spot in F1 Academy next year with the support of Prema and Aston Martin.

The news comes after the F1 Academy season came to an end in Vegas last weekend with Doriane Pin claiming the Championship. The rules of F1 Academy mean that drivers can only compete in the series for two seasons. This ensures more female drivers are able to progress through the academy and can access the sponsorship and spotlight granted by the series.
Because of this rule, quite a few drivers who have previously competed will not be on the grid next season, leaving many open seats for new drivers.
Aston Martin broke the news of their new signing via Instagram, stating that Mathilda Paatz is set to make her full-season debut in F1 Academy in 2026 while also being supported by junior racing team Prema. Taking to the app in a joint post with Aston Martin F1 team, Paatz wrote: ‘It's been a dream to join an F1 team, and now I'm here, and I couldn't feel better in green.”
As part of her move, she will also be joining the Aston Martin Aramco Formula One Team driver academy, creating even more opportunities for the future with the team based at Silverstone in Great Britain.
She's no stranger to the racing series, previously being entered as a wildcard in this year's F1 Academy Canadian Grand Prix. Fans seemed to be impressed with her performance throughout the race weekend and are now excited to see how she does day in and day out next season.
Everyone at The Rookie Reporters wishes her the best of luck for her upcoming season in the F1 Academy.
