Catalan Grand Prix Recap
The star of the weekend, Alex Marquez, must’ve been propelled on with the joy of racing in his home country. He took pole position with a 1:37.536s. He went into the weekend off the back of a P14 finish after taking a trip into the gravel. Alex managed a good start from the light out; however, his brother Marc had a better start and caught up to him in turn one. Notably, Fabio Qartararo had a disappointing start and was quickly overtaken. On the first couple of laps, the brothers were battling it out for the lead with Marc clinching it briefly until Alex rebounded with a clean overtake in turn one on lap 4. Immediately, FIM MotoGP Stewards handed out long lap penalties to Fermin Aldeguer, Franco Morbidelli and Lorenzo Savadori.

Our first on-track incident occurred in sector one when Fabio Di Giannantonio and Marco Bezzecchi both lost their bikes to the gravel. By lap 7, we witnessed Brad Binder crash too, a shame for the Red Bull KTM Factory Racing rider as he had been riding in the top 10 and on for a points finish. We were then gifted with some more on-track action with Enea Bastianini and Pedro Acosta fighting for third. Enea has the upper hand, being on a medium tyre for both his front are rear, while Pedro Acosta has chosen a soft rear tyre that degrades quickly. Enea easily flew past Pedro into turn one, but couldn’t catch the Marquez brothers ahead, so he would have to settle for a bronze medal for now. Impressively, Acosta managed to hold on to a P4 finish, taking home a haul of points for Red Bull KTM Factory Racing.
We witnessed more crashes, starting with Zarco going down on lap 11 to bring out yellow flags on sectors 3 and 4. Yellow flags were then waved due to Alex Rins crashing in sector 4, only five laps later. On laps 20 and 21, Savadori and Morbidelli both crashed on sectors 3 and 4. The riders sure kept the marshals of Catalonia on their toes in sectors 3 and 4.

In addition, on lap 21, Francesco Bagnaia and Ai Ogura had a thrilling battle that first began in turn one of the lap, whereby Bagnaia slid due to a lack of grip but somehow managed to save his bike from the barriers. Pecco put up a good contest with the Trackhouse MotoGP Team rider, but ultimately the next lap, he passed him on track. Our final overtake saw Fabio Quartararo pass Luca Marini.

Looking ahead to San Marino

Due to Alex Marquez outscoring his brother by 3 points, it means that Marc will not have the chance to secure his 7th MotoGP World Championship Title in San Marino. Now with the title firmly grasped by Marc, it’s only a matter of time till he gets the title but which of the following 7 rounds will he take it?
