Romain Grosjean, a French former Formula 1 driver for Haas, is set to drive an F1 car for the first time since 2020, when he had one of the worst crashes in modern F1 history.

In the 2020 Bahrain Grand Prix, Formula 1 driver Romain Grosjean crashed during the first lap, splitting his car in half as it went through the metal barriers of the circuit, setting on fire and engulfing him in flames.
This Grand Prix was due to be one of Grosjean's last in the sport as Haas had decided to sign Mick Schumacher for the following year, and he had failed to find another seat within Formula 1. However, his horrific crash meant that his career ended even earlier than expected due to him suffering significant burns and injuries.
In recent years, Romain has dipped back into the racing world in other series such as IndyCar and IMSA SportsCar Championship, but never Formula 1 - that is, until now. On the 25th of September 2025, Romain announced, in conjunction with his old team, Haas, that he will be driving his old VF-23 testing model this Friday, the 26th of September.
Speaking to the media, Grosjean's old race engineer and, now, Haas team principal, Ayao Komatsu, expressed his happiness and excitement at Romain getting back in the car again after such a long time. He also spoke about reuniting his old team and making the moment special for everyone involved.
As well as this, Romain himself has told the media how grateful he is to have this opportunity and made clear his excitement at the chance to see everyone he used to work with.
